Being Persistent in Prayer

June 12, 2017

In yesterday’s sermon, we looked at the account of Elijah praying for rain (1 Kings 18:41-46). One of the examples we see in Elijah’s prayer is his persistence. Seven times, as he is praying, he sends his servant to see if the clouds are coming and six times the report is that there is nothing on the horizon. It’s only the seventh time that the servant sees a little cloud.

There are lots of important things for us to be praying for persistently. We should be praying for our family, and our community. We pray regularly for our country and our political leaders both national and local. I hope that we are regularly praying as well for our congregation here at North Danvers Mennonite Church. Prayer is a necessary fuel for a congregation’s life as we seek God’s direction and pray for his provision.

I want to mention a few resources that will encourage and challenge your prayer life. Everyone in our congregation has access to RightNow Media (https://www.rightnow.org). If you don’t have an account, you can either email me or Ben Lee to be added. Mark Batterson has a short devotional on there titled “Prayer as Priority.” The book I’d mentioned by Batterson is The Circle Maker: Praying Circles around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears. There are two copies in the church library if you’d like to borrow one.

Remember that VBS is coming up June 19-23.

Also remember that North Danvers has the Ice Cream Social at the Danvers Band Concert on July 2nd. There are lots of opportunities to provide baked goods, and to work on the day of the event. There are sign-up sheets in the fellowship hall, or call the church office for more details.

Josanne and I will be gone next Sunday, but my good friend, Bob Monts, will be continuing the sermon series on the life of Elijah. You don’t want to miss next Sunday!

God bless!

Brian
