Harvest 2019

Harvest looks like it will be kicking into high gear this week. I saw several out in the fields on my way in this morning, and still more who are getting their equipment ready. Let’s pray for the good weather to hold out. Also, as always we pray for the safety of those farming as they work around big equipment and are moving from place to place on the roads.

Yesterday during the sermon I referred to the passage Galatians 6:7-10:

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (NIV)

We see this law of nature referred to repeatedly in the Scripture. We call it the law of the harvest. We reap what we sow. The time we spend developing our spiritual disciplines, and the time we spend in study and fellowship together makes a difference down the road. We try to cut corners here and there, but ultimately, Scripture says, God cannot be mocked. We reap what we sow. Let’s continually be looking for opportunities to do good to others.

The choir sang “Put Peace into Each Other’s Hands” yesterday. It’s a fitting reminder in a time when people are often unkind. It’s a song that calls us to treat one another well, and to love one another as Christ loved us. Thanks to the choir, to Betty Zook for leading the choir. Also thanks to Louise Bowen and Janel Metzger for providing the beautiful accompaniment.

The year end will be approaching rapidly. We are halfway through October already. The seasons of Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas will be here before we know it. Make sure to watch for announcements about the events that we will be participating in together.

Hope you have a great week!

God bless, Brian
