Wow! What a great day yesterday. John Fumana, Executive Coordinator of African Inter-Mennonite Mission, and Pamela Obonde, Church and Donor Relations Coordinator, visited our worship service. John gave a challenging message about living for God from 1 Thessalonians 4. Then during our fellowship time we were able to hear about the way that AIMM has transitioned so that more of the decision-making is taking place in a collaborative way. We also heard some of the sad situations that have arisen the Democratic Republic of Congo because of the M23 rebel group. AIMM is providing support to those who seek to help those affected by this decades-long conflict. We learned that AIMM is involved in literacy programs elsewhere in addition to making loan to entrepreneurial pastors to help them provide for their families. There are some amazing things happening through this ministry.
It was so nice to have a good number of guests who were connected to AIMM in various ways, as well. There is a long history of connection between North Danvers and AIMM. It is so good to see that good ministry is taking place in various countries in Africa. Many thanks to Jamie and MaryBeth Mailhot for hosting John and Pamela and providing supper on Saturday night.
Check out the announcements for a volunteer need through MDS to help someone in Southern Illinois whose home was severely damaged by the tornadoes earlier this year. There will be a September 13th workday, if you are able to volunteer.
The weather was almost brisk this morning when I took the dogs out for their morning walk. It’s a taste of Fall, but we in Central Illinois aren’t fooled. We realize there are likely some other hot days to come. Let’s enjoy this weather while we can.
Speaking of which, we are talking planning a church-wide wiener roast this Fall. We are looking for someone with a good spot for it, who is willing to host. If that’s you, let us know.
Hope to see you soon!
God bless, Brian
