Seek the Peace and Prosperity of the City

It was good to have a good crowd during the worship service again yesterday. We also had a good number stay for the potluck afterward. It’s always good to spend some time together sharing stories.
I’m sure you’ll hear lots of reminders, but this is mine to turn your clocks back next Saturday night. Of course, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have more people show up for Sunday School. :-)
Yesterday we talked about the inevitability of God’s people going into exile in Babylon because of their own rebellion. Next week, we’ll look at Jeremiah 29 where God gives his people instruction about how they should live in exile. For example, in Jeremiah 29:7 we read, “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper,” (NIV). It might be hard to seek the peace and prosperity of a city that had attacked and destroyed your home and had carried you off to a foreign place.
