We Will Stand

I’m back in the office for a few days. Last week was really good, but it was quite mentally exhausting. I really appreciate Mike Claver stepping in while I was gone. Thanks also to all of those who worked hard to make sure that the worship service went smoothly.

The Central District Conference annual meeting is this coming week, so I’ll be gone again Thursday and Friday to attend that in Bluffton, Ohio. I will be back for our worship on Sunday. We’ll be thinking about the turmoil in David’s household that resulted from his sin. All of us have to deal with the consequences of our brokenness, but the good news is that God constantly redeems what has been lost.

Josanne and I had front row seats to a great concert on Saturday night. We got to see Russ Taff, and let me say his voice is still impressive. If you aren’t familiar with Taff, he got his start as the lead singer for the Christian group, the Imperials. He’s also been a part of the Gaither Vocal Band and the Gaither homecoming, in addition to his solo work. Speaking of God redeeming brokenness, if you haven’t seen the documentary that Russ Taff made with his wife Tori, you might find it encouraging. I’ll warn you though, there are some very difficult parts of his life. You can watch it here.

One of the songs that Russ Taff sang was “We Will Stand.” I think it’s a message for our time. The chorus goes:

You're my brother, you're my sister

So take me by the hand.

Together we will work until He comes.

There's no foe that can defeat us

When we're walking side by side. As long as there is love we will stand.

It's an important reminder of the importance of standing united with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

I hope you are doing well and I hope to see you Sunday!

God bless, Brian
