Beginning the Journey
Yesterday we began a series through the book of Joshua. The title of the series is “Trusting the Journey.” I made the point yesterday that when we begin a journey, we can’t see the end. We may know where we are going (hopefully!), we may have an idea of how we are going to get there, but when we set out on the journey we have no way of knowing all we may encounter along the way. We simply trust that if we continue to take the next step and the next step that we will reach the destination. We’ve all heard the words of the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
If you have a personality like mine, you really would like to know what’s coming a few steps ahead, but that’s not how journeys, or our Christian lives work. We trust that God continues to be with us along the way, and that he’ll provide strength and wisdom to overcome whatever we encounter.
Josanne and I are setting out on a journey for a couple of weeks. I shared last week that we’ve already had some setbacks on this journey and we don’t know exactly where it will lead, but we are starting out anyway. I appreciate the encouragement I’ve heard from several of you. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks to continue this journey through Joshua.
Remember that elsewhere in this E-Gram are directions of how you can get ahold of me in the case of an emergency and also where to direct any changes to the prayer list.
God bless,
Brian
