Harvest Home

The harvest is done (or nearly so, at least). The temperatures are falling and we’ve already seen a quick snow shower. Thanksgiving will be upon us in a matter of days. It’s the time we think about our blessings and give thanks to God for all he has given us. It’s also the season we think about how we can give back to our community. This year in particular there are those around us that have big needs. The Outreach Team has already begun a coat drive. The Danvers Carlock Food Pantry has made an advent list available that highlights some of their biggest needs. Project Evergreen, run by the Lions’ Club will give us an opportunity to contribute clothing and gifts to those in need. One of the ways that we can respond to God’s generosity to us is by showing generosity to others.
Remember Jesus’ words, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,’” (Matthew 25:40, NIV).
Josanne and I will be traveling to Atlanta, GA this week in order to attend the International Conference on Missions. We attend this almost every year, but it is normally closer to home—Indianapolis, Cincinnati, or Lexington, for example. This means we are usually back for Sunday, but because this is further away we’ll be staying over the weekend. This will give us an opportunity to visit the Peachtree Christian Church where a former student and friend of ours preaches. We are always encouraged by this conference and it gives us an opportunity to reconnect with former colleagues, friends, students, and those who were my fellow students.
Mike Claver will be filling the pulpit while I’m away. You won’t want to miss his message! Then the following week will be the first week of Advent! It will be 2026 before we know it.
God bless, Brian
