Placing our Trust in God

Next week is the final week of our series through Jeremiah. We’ll be seeing the prophecies about the various nations which surround Israel and Judah. They remind us that God is the one who is control, despite what it may seem to us. It reminds me of Paul’s sermon in Athens where he said, “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands,” (Acts 17:26, NIV). When we see world events taking place that cause us concern, we should remember that we place our trust in God. As the gospel song say, “because I know he holds the future.”
Speaking of being finished with Jeremiah, in two weeks will be the first week of Advent. I’ve titled our Advent series “Christmas Music,” because we’ll be looking at the four songs in the Gospel of Luke that are a part of the story of Jesus’ birth. Can you name those four songs?
As we approach the end of the year we often focus on opportunities to give to those in our communities who have need. The Outreach Team has already begun collecting coats. There are opportunities to give to the Midwest Food Bank and to our local Danvers-Carlock Food Bank. Yesterday we highlighted the work of Growing Hope Globally. All of these and others are worthwhile organizations. It’s a good time to think about making a donation to organizations who are doing good in our community and beyond.
Hope to see you next week! Bring along a friend or two!
God bless, Brian
