Proclaiming Reconciliation
It was a blessing to celebrate the Lord’s Supper together yesterday. I also think the sermon on the importance of us as the Church Proclaiming Reconciliation was an important one. If you missed it for some reason, can I encourage you to go back and listen to it on our Facebook page? I believe we live in a time where there is a great need for us to be intentional about healing relationships, and of course, all of us need a renewed relationship with God.
During the sermon, I used the story of Wilma and Cliff Derksen and their response to the murder of their daughter Candace. Their story is a remarkable example of proclaiming reconciliation through their actions. I came across the story in an article by Malcolm Gladwell where he is talking about his return to faith. The whole article is well worth reading. You can find it at this link.
We will continue our current series with 2 Corinthians 6 next Sunday. James McMillion will be bringing the message next Sunday. He and his family moved back to the area a bit over a year ago after a ministry in Colorado. I really think you’ll enjoy hearing from him.
Finally, let’s be praying for those in the path of Hurricane Milton just now. We continue to pray for those who were affected by Hurricane Helene and for those who are actively trying to help. If you’d like to help, there are a few organizations I would recommend. Next Sunday’s offering is for Mennonite Disaster Services. If you’d like to read about their efforts or donate directly, you can follow this link. Locally, the Midwest Food Bank is involved in making sure those affected have supplies. You can find out more about those or donate by following this link. Finally, Franklin Graham’s organization Samaritan’s Purse was one of the first on the scene in North Carolina. You can read about their efforts by following this link.
From first-hand experience and the countless testimony of others, I can tell you that these Christian organizations are often able to get aid directly to those in need while larger non-profits are much slower and less efficient in their response.
Continue to pray for all of those affected. Terri’s son has power, but still does not have water. There is going to be a long, long path to rebuild.
God bless, Brian
