Remembering Our Committment

Yesterday was a neat time of celebration for our congregation as Carl and Judy Grieder and Dick and Margie Whittenbarger became members of our fellowship. It will be exciting to see what God does through our service and ministry together. It was great to have many of the families of the Whittenbargers and Grieders join us for the service yesterday. As a congregation we remember our commitment to one another:

“As we now receive you into the fellowship of the church,

we make this covenant with you

as we renew our own covenant with God:

to bear each others’ burdens,

to assist in times of need,

to share our gifts and possessions,

to forgive as Christ has forgiven us,

to support each other in joy and sorrow,

and in all things to work for the common good,

thus making known Christ's presence among us

to the glory of God

We’ll begin a series on the Gospel of Luke for our sermon time next week. This series which will run through Easter is entitled “Questioning Jesus.” The sermons will not be looking at the questions we might ask Jesus, but instead will focus upon the questions that we see Jesus asking in Luke’s Gospel. Often when Jesus asks a question it requires a pretty difficult answer from us. Sometimes Jesus’ questions probe areas of our life where change is necessary.

I want to remind you of the challenge I made in the first sermon of the New Year that we join together to pray daily for North Danvers Mennonite Church and that we pray particularly that God would open our eyes spiritually so we can see his vision for our congregation. We want to be able to discern God’s direction for us.
