“Sometimes by Step”

What stories come to your mind when you think about Abraham? We have begun a new sermon series focused on his life. Yesterday we saw the way that Abraham responded to God’s call in a remarkable way. It was Abraham’s faith in God that made him the “father of all who believe” (Romans 4:1). This points to another part of this series of sermons. We will also be considering the way that Abraham is frequently mentioned in the New Testament. In fact, Abraham’s name is mentioned 82 times in the New Testament. Only Moses is mentioned more frequently at 85 times.

One of the points of the sermon yesterday is that we need to position ourselves to hear God’s direction. Abraham could only obey God because he knew what God was asking him to do. We have so much going on in our lives today, it is easy for us to shut out any possibility of God’s direction. It’s good to get away from the noise occasionally and make sure we are tuned in to our Creator and our Savior. As we continue in our spiritual journeys, the Scripture tells us to “keep in step with the Spirit,” (Galatians 5:25, NIV).

The other part of this is that when we see the way that God is directing us, we need to be willing to go. Even when it is difficult, or even when we can’t see the end of the journey. We continue step-by-step. I mentioned Rich Mullins and Dave “Beaker” Strasser’s song “Sometimes by Step” yesterday. Click here and listen to it if you’d like.

Who are you thinking of inviting to join us for worship on Sunday? If you don’t have someone in mind, try to find someone and begin to pray for God to open doors.

Love you all. God bless,Brian
