The Gospel

Yesterday during our worship time we began our series on 1 Thessalonians by looking at the power of the gospel. Paul wrote to the Thessalonians Christians, “. . . our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction,” (1 Thessalonians 1:5, NIV). The message of what God has done through Jesus is powerful. We need to be reminded often that we rely so often on our own abilities when our God is all-powerful. If we have are facing difficulties or hardship, we should take those things to God in prayer.
Next week we will look at 1 Thessalonians 2 which talks about the gospel being shared. Thinking about sharing the gospel intimidates a lot of Christians. They may get images of street corner preachers with megaphones. Sharing our faith is really about building close relationships with others, however. When we build trust with others, then we can talk about the things that are important to us, like our faith.
We have some special Sundays coming up. Remember that August 10th will be our Funk’s Grove service and then August 17th will be the Danvers Days worship service.
Yesterday during fellowship time, we were talking about the McLean County Fair. It seems like this summer has gone so quickly. Several of our folks are traveling—getting in that last trip of the summer. The kids will be back in school and preschool before you know it.
Hope to see you Sunday and don’t forget to bring along a friend.
God bless, Brian
