The Lord is a Warrior

We don’t often think of the Lord as a Warrior, but sometimes the Scriptures speak of him that way. This will be our theme for our worship service next week. After the Israelites crossed through the Red Sea and the Egyptian army was drowned when the Red Sea returned, Miriam wrote a song praising God. In part, it says:
“The LORD is a warrior;
the LORD is his name.” (Exodus 15:3, NIV)
Psalm 45 also talks about God in this way as well as his representative on the throne of God’s people.
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.” (Psalm 45:6, NIV)
That God is a ruler and can fight on behalf of his people is a comfort. It reminds us that we aren’t responsible for fighting our own battles, but we can trust that God is there with us.
In two weeks, on May 24th, it will be Pentecost Sunday. The First Presbyterian Church of Danvers will be joining us for that service. We’ll have special music and a nice time of fellowship afterwards. Make sure you’re here for that.
May 31st will be a potluck Sunday and also a time for honoring our graduates. A cake will be provided for dessert.
Summer will be upon us before you know it. I hope to see you Sunday and bring along a friend.
God bless,
Brian
