The Result of Rebellion

I remember as a kid getting away with something that my parents had told me not to do. When that happened, it would make it easier for me to try to get away with it again. If that kept on, pretty soon it was something that I thought I’d never be punished for. That’s how a lot of the people felt in Jeremiah’s day, I think. God had warned them against disobedience and worshiping false gods, yet things had continued as they had been. They remained in the land God had promised. They had avoided being invaded by foreign armies. All that was about to come to an end, though, because there are consequences for rebellion.

Here's what Paul said about this in the book of Galatians: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life,” (Galatians 6:7-8, NIV). We reap what we sow. When we sow discord, that’s what we will reap. Maybe not immediately. Maybe not even soon, but eventually.

We had a great turnout for our worship service yesterday. I want to remind you all that there will be a potluck meal next Sunday after our worship service. I hope you’ll make plans to attend and also to invite someone else to come along! It should be a good time of fellowship.

Yesterday’s worship service closed with the song “You Never Let Go.” As I mentioned, that’s been such an important song to Josanne and me during times when we were hanging on by a thread. The chorus of the song reads :Oh no, You never let go!

Through the calm and through the storm.

Oh no, You never let go!

In every high and every low.

Oh no, You never let go,

Lord, You never let go of me.

It’s a good reminder for us all. I want to let you know that when we’re going to have a song video as a part of our worship, we are going to start posting it on our Facebook on the Tuesday before, if you want to listen to it ahead of time.

Hope you have a great week and I hope to see you on Sunday!

God bless. Brian
